Sutherland - MySQL Database Administrator

Job Summary : We are looking for an experienced MySQL Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in AWS, MySQL, and Snowflake. The ideal candidate will be responsible for database administration, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, backup/recovery, and data integration activities across MySQL and Snowflake environments. Key Responsibilities : - Manage and administer MySQL databases in production and non-production environments. - Work extensively with AWS RDS for MySQL and related AWS database services. - Monitor database performance, availability, capacity, and health. - Perform query optimization, execution-plan analysis, indexing, and schema optimization. - Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks. - Configure and manage database backup, restore, replication, and recovery processes. - Use AWS CloudWatch for database monitoring, alerting, and performance analysis. - Troubleshoot database incidents and provide root-cause analysis. - Manage database security, access controls, users, roles, and privileges. - Perform database upgrades, patching, maintenance, and capacity planning. - Work with development teams to review SQL queries, stored procedures, database designs, and schema changes. - Support database migrations and data movement between environments. - Work with Snowflake for data warehousing, data loading, transformation, and performance optimization. - Monitor Snowflake workloads, query performance, storage, and warehouse utilization. - Support data ingestion and integration between MySQL/AWS and Snowflake. - Develop and maintain SQL queries, scripts, and automation for database administration. - Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and database standards. Required Skills : 1. MySQL DBA : - Strong hands-on experience with MySQL Database Administration. - Experience with AWS RDS for MySQL - Must Have. - Strong knowledge of MySQL architecture, configuration, backup, recovery, and replication. - Expertise in SQL query optimization and performance tuning. - Strong understanding of : 1. Query pattern analysis 2. Execution plans 3. Indexing strategies 4. Schema design optimization 5. Database locking and concurrency - Experience with database monitoring and troubleshooting. 2. AWS : - Strong experience with AWS RDS. - Hands-on experience with AWS CloudWatch. - Good understanding of AWS database monitoring, alerts, logs, and performance metrics. - Exposure to AWS Redshift or similar cloud data warehouse technologies is preferred. 3. Snowflake : - Hands-on experience with Snowflake. - Strong SQL skills and understanding of Snowflake architecture. - Experience with data loading, staging, transformations, and data integration. - Knowledge of Snowflake performance tuning and warehouse optimization. - Experience with Snowflake security, roles, users, and access management. - Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data warehouse concepts. Good to Have : - Experience with AWS Redshift. - Experience with ETL/ELT tools. - Knowledge of Python or Shell scripting. - Experience with database automation and monitoring tools. - Exposure to cloud database migration projects. - Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices. - AWS or Snowflake certification is an added advantage. Experience : - 7+ years of experience as a MySQL DBA. - Strong experience working with AWS RDS. - Relevant hands-on experience with Snowflake. - Experience supporting enterprise-scale production databases is preferred. Education : - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. - Relevant AWS, MySQL, or Snowflake certifications are an advantage.
