This role delivers complex technical solutions, provides technical leadership within the team, and contributes to architectural decisions and engineering best practices.<br><br>The Senior Software Development Engineer leads technical design and implementation within their area, mentors other engineers, and helps ensure the systems they work on remain scalable, secure, reliable and maintainable.<br><br><strong>Key Responsibilities<br><br></strong><strong>Software Development & Architecture<br><br></strong><ul><li>Design, develop, test and deploy complex software solutions.</li><li>Lead technical design discussions and guide implementation approaches.</li><li>Lead the delivery of complex features and solutions across multiple contributors.</li><li>Contribute to architectural decisions and identify technical risks.</li><li>Drive modernisation and technical debt reduction within assigned systems.</li><li>Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure and aligned with business requirements.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Product & System Ownership<br><br></strong><ul><li>Own the design, delivery and ongoing technical health of assigned systems and services.</li><li>Drive improvements in application scalability, performance and reliability.</li><li>Lead investigation and root-cause analysis of complex production issues.</li><li>Partner with DevOps and Platform teams to improve reliability, monitoring and observability.</li><li>Contribute to the continuous improvement of operational practices.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence<br><br></strong><ul><li>Lead technical discussions and provide guidance during design and implementation.</li><li>Conduct code and design reviews and provide constructive technical guidance.</li><li>Mentor Software Engineers and support their technical development.</li><li>Champion high standards for code quality, testing, security and maintainability.</li><li>Contribute to improvements in engineering practices and development processes.</li><li>Facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-functional technical problem solving.<br><br></li></ul><strong>AI-Enabled Engineering<br><br></strong><ul><li>Use AI-assisted development tools across coding, testing, debugging, documentation and code review to improve engineering productivity and quality.</li><li>Demonstrate practical experience with AI coding assistants and agentic development workflows, using them effectively to understand existing code, troubleshoot problems and accelerate solution development.</li><li>Apply strong engineering judgement when reviewing AI-generated output, ensuring solutions meet expected standards for quality, security, performance and maintainability.</li><li>Actively adopt and promote effective AI-enabled development practices within the team.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Collaboration<br><br></strong><ul><li>Collaborate closely with Product Management, Architecture, Support, DevOps and other Engineering teams.</li><li>Provide technical input during planning, estimation and execution.</li><li>Communicate technical decisions, risks and trade-offs clearly to relevant stakeholders.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Education / Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.</li><li>7+ years of professional software development experience.</li><li>Strong TypeScript fluency with significant experience building production web applications and services.</li><li>Strong experience with modern frontend and backend application development, including TypeScript/JavaScript, React and HTML/CSS.</li><li>Strong experience designing and supporting scalable production systems.</li><li>Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or equivalent.</li><li>Experience with Docker, including container usage and basic troubleshooting.</li><li>Good understanding of networking concepts relevant to modern web and distributed applications.</li><li>Strong system design, troubleshooting and analytical skills.</li><li>Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers.</li><li>Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Preferred Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Experience with cloud platforms, serverless applications and distributed systems, ideally Azure/Azure Functions or comparable technologies such as AWS Lambda.</li><li>Familiarity with event-driven architectures, messaging and asynchronous processing, including Service Bus or equivalent technologies.</li><li>Familiarity with NoSQL and caching technologies, such as MongoDB and Redis.</li><li>Experience with CI/CD, application security, observability and modern software delivery practices.</li><li>Experience with Kubernetes and modern UI/design systems such as Material UI/MUI or equivalent.</li><li>Exposure to PHP/AngularJS is beneficial for working with existing platform components;
