Online Remote Chess Tutor for US students (Part-Time / Remote)

What This Role Is (and Isn’t)
This is NOT a typical chess coaching job.
You will not be judged on:
- number of games played
- student win rates
- improving how students think
- developing structured reasoning
- training decision-making under constraints
Because chess builds
- pattern recognition
- multi-step reasoning
- planning
- error detection
- Math
- Communication (ELA)
- Coding
- Use curated positions (not random gameplay)
- Ask students to explain every move
- Guide them from guessing → reasoning
- Enforce independent thinking
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 online sessions (K–12 students)
- Prepare structured lessons using Lichess
- Track student thinking progress (not wins)
- Write clear, outcome-focused parent updates
You’ll thrive if you
- Enjoy explaining why , not just what
- Ask questions instead of giving answers
- Care about how students think, not just results
- Chess rating: 1600–2200
- Strong communication skills
- Prior teaching experience (preferred, not mandatory)
- Students start explaining their moves
- Students make fewer mistakes over time
- Parents clearly see thinking improvement
- Gameplay-heavy sessions
- Passive teaching
