Frontend Web Developer (HTML/CSS/JS), C1/C2
About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We hire and contract contributors to help shape how modern AI systems behave — and we pay for real work that improves models and datasets.
We offer flexible, remote roles that let you work part-time or full-time with clear, technical tasks. For this project, OpenTrain is the hiring organization and will manage onboarding, tasks, and payments.
- Remote, contractor-friendly work with flexible scheduling.
- Work directly on data used to train and evaluate AI systems.
- Create transferable experience in an industry that’s rapidly growing.
About AI training and why it matters
AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human work behind every major AI system. People prepare examples, evaluate outputs, and refine code/annotations so models learn to behave correctly.
This role focuses on the frontend web domain: your technical skills and careful annotations will be used to build better web-focused training data and code examples for models.
- Contribute to state-of-the-art AI by creating high-quality, reproducible annotations and code.
- Gain hands-on experience that’s highly relevant to web engineering and ML-assisted tooling.
The role
You will analyze website screenshots, create challenging question-and-answer pairs, produce sketch-style annotations (e.g., marking elements or layout regions), and edit or improve HTML/CSS/JS code to meet task specifications.
Work is contractor, part-time, remote, and requires immediate availability. Tasks emphasize precision, creativity, and technical skill to produce high-quality artifacts used for model training and evaluation.
- Schedule: 20+ hours per week.
- Pay: $13 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).
- Employment Types: Contractor, Part-time.
- Label types include bounding boxes and programming/coding annotations.
What you'll do (key responsibilities)
Daily tasks combine visual analysis with frontend coding. Expect short, focused assignments that require reading a screenshot or spec, annotating UI elements, and producing working HTML/CSS/JS edits or examples.
- Create challenging question-and-answer pairs about web layouts and components.
- Draw sketch annotations or bounding boxes on screenshots to identify elements and layout areas.
- Edit and optimize HTML, CSS, and JavaScript based on task requirements.
- Ensure responsive behavior, cross-browser compatibility, and clean, maintainable code.
- Deliver work promptly and follow task-specific guidelines for format and quality.
Requirements
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements. OpenTrain will verify documentation and readiness to start immediately.
- Location: Must be located in India.
- Language: English proficiency at C1 or C2 level, with official documentation to validate this level.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years hands-on frontend development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Technical skills: Strong understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and code optimization.
- Availability: Able to start immediately and commit to project timelines (20+ hrs/week).
- Attention to detail: Ability to create precise annotations and produce high-quality code edits.
Interview questions and evaluation
We evaluate candidates with open-ended technical and writing questions to judge both frontend skill and English proficiency. Interviewers should use non-leading questions (ask open questions such as 'What is your English level?' and 'How many years of HTML/CSS/JS experience do you have?').
- Technical — HTML: Explain the difference between semantic and non-semantic HTML elements and why semantic elements matter.
- Technical — CSS: How would you design a responsive navigation bar? What techniques or tools would you use to ensure it works across devices?
- Technical — JavaScript: Describe event delegation and give an example where it’s preferable to attaching listeners directly.
- English proficiency — Writing task 1: Describe a challenging project you recently worked on and how you overcame the difficulties (detailed response required).
- English proficiency — Writing task 2: Explain a complex technical issue to a non-technical client in clear, accessible language (detailed response required).
- Documentation requirement: Ask whether the candidate already has official C1/C2 documentation and request they share it within the day. Candidates who cannot provide documentation immediately should be scored 5 or lower on the interview score.
How to apply
Apply through your OpenTrain account with the following information. Applications that omit required documentation or the open-ended responses below cannot be considered.

- State your English level (C1/C2) and whether you can provide official documentation today.
- State your years of hands-on HTML/CSS/JS experience and relevant examples of past work.
- Answer the interview writing prompts included above in your application.
- Include your weekly availability (confirm 20+ hrs/week) and any other scheduling constraints.
